09 prostar 9C091540. I’m guessing it wasn’t flashed correctly. Cause my cruise don’t work either

your fighting 3 battles actually. 2 of them in the engine ECM itself...

ONE, - is that when someone swapped the ecm.. did they re-flash the replacement ECM with the program that belongs to your exact ser# engine?. Someone can't just slap on a different ecm with its existing programming from another engine.. even if it the same exact make/model. None of its collected data, injector trim offsets, cylinder balancing, etc. is going to be correct and this is not going to fix itself. It can be downright harmful actually. There are a lot of mechanics out there who are completely clueless when it comes to this kind of stuffs.

The ecm needs to be flashed with the latest program from cummins + the vehicle settings restored into it, copied out of the old ecm ... leading to issue number 2...

TWO, If someone did not make a work order and an ecm template, copying all of the dash addresses for the cruise control, engine brakes, etc.etc. and all the other vehicle setTINGS FROM THE OLD ECM and then restored them into the NEW ECM AFTER RE-FLASHING IT WITH YOUR ENGINE PROGRAM NEEDED then some of those systems (cruise, engine brake, etc.) are not going to work properly. - This has nothing whatsoever to do with your cabin controller, BCM, etc. Its an engine programming issue.

THREE, If the BCM was also replaced.. then you can have issues there too, separately from the other 2 problems mentioned above. I have seen people swap Cab controllers out and have lots of problems.. or get away with it and everything work. - Its a crap shoot and bad practice to willy-nilly swap stuffs like that without having the right software on hand to set it up correctly.

-- Lastly... it also sounds awfully suspicious to have BOTH the ecm on an engine go out .. + the cab controller go out too. That does not make any sense unless far more damage has occurred like someone hooking up the batteries backwards.. or the truck getting struck by lightning,.. or an alternator going haywire and putting 30+ volts into the system. - Something just does not add up in your first post there.

just my thoughts any ways.

I purchased the truck not long ago. It did not have a factory ecm and the engine brake plus cruise would only work sometimes hit or miss. There were a bunch of wires cut by the bcm that were still hot so I’m guessing it shorted the bcm over time? I began having issues with the truck always reading bad crank sensor even when replaced. So truck ran poorly. These guys I went to swapped ecm and engine harness. They did the programming so I’m not sure what they put into it. Is there a way I can get the proper programming done? Even if I never had the original ecm? I’m pretty sure they were guessing at everything and just looking to get the most out of me. We didn’t end on good terms so ended up taking my truck out of there after they got it running again. However it seems to be running good. It was also DPF deleted because they mentioned that was one of my problems also. It was a long long issue with them.
