RE: Cm871 tune The variable geometry turbo (VGT) is not only used for engine braking but is essential for achieving an optimal air-fuel mixture, reducing turbo lag, improving performance at low RPMs, and preventing overboost at high RPMs. Regarding costs, I own six units with the same engine, Cummins ISX CM871, of which three had their VGT replaced with a fixed-geometry turbo to reduce maintenance expenses. This was a serious mistake, as fuel consumption increased by approximately 0.5 km/l. and engine life was reduced in all of them. I am currently working on restoring this critical component, as the fuel savings alone will fully justify the investment. | |||
