Why would an enigne chew through turbo's?...

I got 1,060,000 out of my turbo in my 2012 Peterbilt 386 with the ISX cm2250. The first 714,000 miles were with the mandate. The remainder were after demandate. I've always believed in a cool down with all trucks I've driven.
