RE: Crankcase vacuum pump (03-19-2026 )Kw9006nz Wrote: Afternoon everyone, while rolling down the road a few days ago, my thoughts wandered to crankcase pressure and vacuum, I know any pressure at all is bad for the cams, but what about a vacuum? Not much just 2-3 in h20. It cuts windage, it helps seal rings, it pulls the fumes out Not letting them linger in the block, supposedly frees up a potentially unmeasurable amount of hp, and by my rink dink thinking, might pull oil to to top for the cams. Idk just thinking out loud here guys. == That whole vacuum making better hp garbage arguments found on social madai is only relevant for engines that are turning some serious RPM's on racing applications. Does noting to regular enignes that do not turn big rpm numbers. NEXT, is HOW you get a vacuum. This is seriously problematic in itself.. as any turbocharged engine is going to have positive pressure at its intake manifold. So ... putting a line at the intake of the turbo is the only real spot, and this GUMMS UP THE ENTIRE INTAKE SYSTEM AND CAC.. making a HUGE MESS!!!. - This is already done on diesel cars and pick-ups and its always been a huge problem over time for them.. yielding lower fuel mileage and creating other issues as the intake components (CAC, piping, cylinder head, etc.) get gummy and clogged up. The most effective solution is to have NO crank case pressure buildup.. and also have NO vacuum... and well ventilated cc fumes relief tube going down under the engine somewhere where its safe (away from high heat sources). (Just my own thoughts, this would not be a bad solution)... - If anything, someone could get the best of both worlds by simply using a larger relief tube, it going down under the vehicle, bend + cut it at a high angle at the bottom with it in the air-stream at highway speeds, so that it creates a natural venturi effect, putting a slight vacuum in the block while cruising. Someone could measure cc pressures/vacuum at the valve cover and then adjust accordingly... come up with something actually useful on this subject.
