| RE: 450 vs 500 a 450 is a tier-2 engine. a bit more fuel effecient, smaller injectors, etc. a 500 could be a tier-2 or a tier3... a tier-3 has bigger injectors, different style of pistons and overhead cam, and a bit less fuel efficient in general. ALthough not always the case, generally a Tier3 has a shorter lifespan (600k miles vs 900k avg. ) because they quite commonly are ordered by owner ops who like to use tall gears and stomp the guts out of what they got,... or ordered by those who haul heavier freight and working them hard. | |||
