2009 387 Peterbilt Motor mounts / ISX 871

Feel a bit stupid to ask this, but another driver tried convincing me that to change my motor mounts on my truck, I need to remove my transmission... Then he told me I could put the mounts in either way, and they would be just fine..

So, remove tranny ???? Seems like the bracket on the frame rail could be removed if jacking the motor wouldn't clear enoug to put in top part..

And which way do these mounts go in ??
thought the larger mount goes between engine bracket, and frame bracket...

Sounds like your talking about the rear mounts but i think you have the front mounts pictured there.

There isn't much room in there to work at all... Probably the approach I would take is to remove the mounts from the rear structure. They're loctited in and tight, so some heat would be needed, provided you have enough room to get a ratchet on them... Doubtful without removing the transmission. Might as well call it a job, pull trans and reseal your rear structure and put a new clutch in it while you're at it.

If I remember right, there was only about 1/4" clearance with the top of the frame rails when dropping the engine in.



If your 387 is anything like the 386, the driver side is just plain misery. A pile of air and electric lines runs right over the mount, and the starter is tucked right in the mess.

Yes, talking about rear mounts.. I double checked the part numbers, and the one Im showing are the rear mounts...

The picture you posted above, looks exactly like the bottom radiator mount bushings,.. not the engine mounts at all.

The picture you posted above, looks exactly like the bottom radiator mount bushings,.. not the engine mounts at all.

My rear mounts look like the pic - very similar to the radiator mounts.

here's pics from my truck... And yes the front mounts look almost the same as the rear, only the fronts are twice the size...
