How long have you had this truck? If it has made it to 1.2 million miles obviously however it has been ran has not hurt it.

Could have been inframed before, or just lucky. It's been shown lots of times that lugging under 1400 rpm and high power demands a Cummins causes fretted liners, and etching the head from liners dancing in the block.

What about dropping a hole and slowing down a hair? It would be much easier on the engine and you would be much less noticeable when you roll past highway patrol lol!

My dad owned it from late 2010 to late 2018. I started driving it in 2013 and I bought it in march 2019. It was at a dealership we traded it into for a few months but no engine work. I've been the one doing all maintenance and driving since mid 2014. I've never tried dropping a hole and running 55-60 because I always thought under 15 was the sweet spot. I wasnt aware I needed to be over 15. That's something I could definitely test and see how fuel mileage looks. Usually at 63-65 1375-1400 I see 6.5 on average. Truck is an ex wal mart and always heard bad things but ours was always a solid money maker. Even to this day I'm barely looking into major engine work. My dad bought it at 675 or so and we've just about doubled that with no major work done. Just a clutch and a rear end in 10 years. And good maintenance of course. But no secret formula, just maintenance and making money. I couldn't be happier which is why I'm willing to rebuild and stand behind it 100 %

You need to do the bottom end, replace those bearings and run an overhead.

Indeed I do. That's getting done ASAP and the rest will follow in time.

Sounds like you have been treating your engine well and it in turn has treated you well. Those 9400i trucks were good trucks.

If you don't have much oil consumption I would replace rod and main bearings and the oil pump and keep running it. You would replace the oil pan gasket when doing the bearings so that should fix that oil leak.

How bad is the oil leak in the front and rear?

Front and rear is minimal. Only stains and never drips down. Oil cooler and oil pan both leak in the front right corner and the oil pan can make a puddle while the truck warms up. So for sure when the rods and mains get done so will the gaskets and I'll see where I stand at that point.

Your one weak spot in the motor will be those wrist pins in the piston assembly, normally you are close to or at the end of life on those with the mileage you have. Something to consider if you plan on keeping the truck. An in frame may be in order. Don't want to ventilate the block.
