Personally I would go with 3.90. You only want to do it once, better to be lower than not low enough.

A guy was there that switched and his was $7200.
Depends if you need other parts which most do depending on how old your driveline is.
You could also buy used parts and be cheaper.

That’s why I’m going 3:70 opposed to 3:55. I still like to get places just don’t need to be going 75+ to get there.

You always get what you pay for with driveline parts. Do you really want to have to pay for a wrecker wherever in the world you break down to wherever you wish to have it repaired at and/or pay whatever price the local tow company takes you with who knows what skill knowledge they have?

Ive been there twice. 1 rear in Denver (1700 miles from home) and the other in Indianapolis (600 miles from home) both ended in at least 7 days down waiting to be fixed with hotel bills and shops that sucked so bad I ended up pulling both back out, resealing and torquing everything properly, cleaned metal shavings out, replaced bearing and races. Denver was done outside and the earliest a normal shop would get to me was 2 weeks. So very luckily local shade tree I ran into swapped it for me after a few days and indianapolis was 5 days of sitting with 2 days of waiting for special order rear to come in and 2 more days to put it in. At $130/hr and hotel bills racking up.. just something to throw in the thought process of unknown quality driveline parts.

I could go used if knew the truck they came out of. Now the claims of salvage yards about low mileage parts is questionable to me.

I would probably talk with a rebuild shop about getting some reman rears. Would take some doing but I could manage to swap rears at home so only be out the money for parts.

I've done literally 100's of rears with just a small 3 ton cherry picker. And in a pinch an old swing set and a come-along. And 1 time just using a automotive floor jack. If you can get it lifted or swinging, they can be shoved in.

I’m not really a used type but it would be cheaper used is all I was saying.

i put brand new rockwell RS404 units in my lonestar to go from 3.36 to 3.70s was about 6 grand using new units and few new driveline parts.
