2012 Isx 15 rattle noise top driver side

I have a 2012 T700 with cummins Isx15 450hp 488,000miles, 1 month ago it started to rattle. No engine codes When the truck starts to pull a grade it will start a rattle really loud it sounds like its on top of engine, and only around 1400 to 1600rpm , if I let off on pedal it goes away, when I get back on the pedal rattle comes back ( sound is like bearings or valves coming apart). So far mechanic done dpf and doc filter clean and burn, overhead adjustment and has not been able to solve problem..

sounds like valve train related problem , but it can also be VGT turbo rattle .

Mechanic states its nothing mechanical, idles good, accelarates ok no sound, only when pulling loads it starts to rattle ..It seems to resonate out of air filter

check your clutch pedal adjusting rod, they have been known to rattle under torque conditions.

Dude! - You are in some serious need of

AN EGR TUNE-UP! -- How did you even make it this far?

I bet your IMAP sensor looks like a burnt piece of charcoal by now!


- You need to replace IMAP, Delta-P, Exhaust BP sensor, DPF Delte-P, and a few others!.

- And if it has been more than 150k miles since these, you neet to...
--- Clean the passages under the EGR Delta-P sensior (while your replacing the sensor).
--- Clean or replace your Doser Injectior.
--- Clean out the sensor tubes at the DPF can.
--- Clean and verify the SCR Doser is working properly
--- Replace the SCR Doser Filter.
--- Replace the Coolant Filter for the engine.

I can keep going. Do you see my point here? - If you are neglecting your engine, how can you expect it not to eventually come apart.

You should hope that the rattle is not your high pressure fuel pump! - It will take out the whole engine with it when it goes!

Do an Injector leakdown test and see what the pump sounds like as it builds pressure...

Denial and neglect is a powerful thing. You shake your head, and say it, -- That is, until your on the side of the road yet again, or in that shop for repeating emissions system failures yet again, while they hose you. That shwwoshing sound is your money going out the window. -- Don't run around blind because your subconscious it telling you to be lazy. If your someone who has that many miles on your CM2250 or CM2350 engine and you haven't been doing those things regularity, I feel bad for your engine. You are also making OEM repair shops very happy to collect your paycheck.

Marajin is right. We had a truck here in our shop that sounds like it was fixing to through a rod when we tested the fuel pump.... ALos did your guy check the jakes? He needs to check the running side of them. I had one that the jake rockers was hitting the valve stem. When we checked it the rocker had to free play. When you set the valves just take and see if you can push down on the jake at that time. It should have free play in it. Rawze may chime in. I was going to look it up on quick serve but for some reason its not there any more :(
