Fuel tanks dirty
Ok I have been having issues with clogging fuel filters for a while now and tried to get tanks cleaned inside but still having issues not sure if it’s algae or Ashplotine buildup but it is really stuck on the inside but not stuck enough that it’s not clogging filters. I’m going to try to put some photos up on here and you can even see where they tried to scrape the stuff off. Thanks any help would be appreciated.Oh 2008 cm 871 with 1.7 million miles and 475000 since inframe and demandate at mr haggs

RE: Fuel tanks dirty
you could always send a sample off to a lab and let them determine what it is.

You also do know that CM570's, CM870's, and Cm871's are known to make asphaltine in the return lines right?... especially if there is a higher bio-blend diesel used (above B7). Look at the fuel pump when you fuel. It should show the "B" rating of the fuel.

That is why you use a 7 or 10 micron filter in your davco to help keep it at bay.

and the best way to prevent algea buildup is to always fill the tanks to mostly full each day, so that they cannot sweat on the insides of the tanks in rainy/cold weather (same as when your windshield fogs up).

Thanks rawze I never knew about this problem And Imabey 15 years and 1.7 million miles it’s come to start giving me trouble.About 2 months or so I have been dealing with this and before I always did 10000 mile oil changes since new and never had a problem but I guess it’s a problem now.I hate to change tanks out but changing filters every 1000 miles is getting expensive and a hassle and I have spin one from the factory no davco but I think the primary is 10 micron.thanks again

The primary fuel filter on most ISX engines is typically 50-microns.. and would barely filter out sand.. is not good enough.

GET A Davco!.. and install it.

and if the fuel filters are clogging every 1,000 miles.. then you have some other serious issues there... likely algae problems.

I know on my truck, even with B17 Bio diesel, my davco and a 7=micron filter, will last about 15,000 - 18,000 miles or so before the fuel gets to the top of the filter, showing its getting clogged up.

RE: Fuel tanks dirty
We have successfully used "Killem" on algae problems. Rare to see it but it happens.

For Asphaltine Fleetguard has a range of products.

FWIW algae sometimes has a "slimy" feel to it.
