Hello,need advises about cm870

Hello everyone, i am thinking to buy,2005 volvo with cm870 with 400hp.10 speed meritor,3.58 rears..and would like your opinions,especially Rawze,about this engine..I am going to look at this truck on Wednesday
400hp can be increased?or its enough for Midwest runs,no hills,no heavy loads.if Egr is working, keep it or delete?and if delete,how to do it properly?

It's a 20 year old truck and engine. If you don't have $30K in the bank for an inframe then don't buy it. Yea you can turn it up a little.

If you decide to demandate it there's people here that can do it right. Just don't get it done by anybody not recommended by this forum.

Is there a reason you are looking at buying such an old truck?

A 20 year old truck will be reliable? Done properly these emmission engines can last 800k to a million miles. Some parts for those old 870's are getting hard to find. I'm not trying to give you a hard time, I just don't think it's a wise business plan to buy a truck like that to earn a living with. If you were buying it to use on a farm or occasional local use then ok that might make sense.

I had an 04 Volvo ,depending how it was kept, It was a solid truck. The wiring was better, frames didn't become swiss cheese but still should watch out for rustjacking especially where the 5th wheel sits. Hopefully the wear items were at least replaced, but yes be prepared to inframe and invest into it if you're keeping it long term. Depending on CPL you could bump it up to the 450-500 range, Running Rough can help with tuning if needed.
