Fixing a bad tune?

First off I want to thank Rawze for this forum. Have read on here a ton in recent years. Stayed up till 3am last night reading Waterloo's rebuild thread. Unbelievable, but just amazing at the hospitality from Rawze and his family. As well as the many people that stopped by to pitch in, anyway possible.

I decided to join up, because 1, its time I became a member of the forum. With 4 Cummins engines around, I figured I'll need help at some point.

Well here's reason 2. I bought a demandated CM2250 ISX12 last fall. Seemed to run fine, but only had time to put about 200 miles on. Only 60 of which were loaded. I'm sure I'll get lots of hate for not putting more seat time in it, but farming doesnt always need a truck year round. Anyways is what it is and now I have to deal with it.

Ive read tons of Rawze posts of bad tunes, and well its probably my own fault for choosing to buy it. Love the truck, does what I need it to. But its definitely a bad tune.

Took it into my local shop (again bad on me for not doing it before purchase), as I started getting a Jake Brake code according to my dash. Come to find out, the ECM doesnt match up with the truck even. *facepalm*. Truck is in very nice condition so I believe it to be close to right on miles and hours. It must've been part of somebody's fleet at one point as there was another painted just like it.

Anyways, shop guy said he believe it a ghost code, happening 100s of times in the history. I can drive the truck loaded, and the Jake Brake works fine. About 10 miles into my journey I'll get check engine light for the Jake and it seems like the lowest setting is all I get. Got home. Set the brakes. Noticed it disappeared, rev it up and it would come on. Back to idle and off again. Park it for awhile, and Jake will work fine again and then bam same thing. Nothing stood out to him as to be causing the issue externally as far as wiring, etc.

Inline 6 is already on the way. Not afraid to dive in as Ive played around with Insite before on a previous truck, moving it from 400 to 450 via Incal files. I'm sure Rawze will offer to review the file, and I'm 99% sure it will be a bad tune after reading on here.

I guess my question becomes, what next to fix the tune? Have read how poor lots of these tunes are and reasons they are poor, but haven't really read what's done to fix them. Obviously cant go back to a stock tune as the demandate took some weight off, prior to me owning it. I really do like the truck and would like to keep it, but I also need something to work correctly.

And Rawze, when you read this, I fully expect some criticism towards me as I know you arent a big fan of these kinds of things.

yeah, it most likely will be bad. Copy file out and e-mail it to me for a review of what someone did in there. As far as fixing the program if it is bad / harmful, that often happens during the process of getting it reviewed. It depends on how bad it is, as to what to do about it.

Much appreciated. Will do once my inline 6 arrives and I get everything set up again. Currently in the midst of harvest so I'm hoping to get to that soon.
