| Engine code 0731 ISX 15 2008, I just did a front cover gasket between the block and cover housing. i am now getting the 731 {crank cam position mis-match} code. I ran the timing and checked it all looks good. The weird thing is the amber light goes off over 1100 RPM. I think this looks like more of a sensor issue. What are your thoughts? When looking at the Conditions For Clearing The Fault Code To validate the repair, perform a key cycle, start the engine and let it idle for 1 minute. The fault code status displayed by the recommended Cummins® electronic service tool or equivalent will change to INACTIVE immediately after the diagnostic runs and passes. The ECM will turn off the amber CHECK ENGINE lamp immediately after the diagnostic runs and passes. The “Reset All Faults” command in the recommended Cummins® electronic service tool or equivalent can be used to clear active and inactive faults. | |||

| RE: Engine code 0731 some guesses ... wrong wedge was used?. bad sensor or wiring? mis-alignment of the front gear cover down at the crank?. slipped cam after re-install?. loose tone wheel at the crank?. too much play in the gear train?. crank was not fully in the correct pin position when re-installing the gear-train?.
