That does not sound good. An inspection of the front gear train sounds to be in order as well.

If they re-used the compression spacer on the injector cam then it may have cracked. You are not supposed to re-use the concave type spacer so I would check that too. There are actually 2 types...

Item #2 in the picture is the spacer. If it is the thick flat kind, it is re-usable, but if it the older concave type, it cannot be re-used.

This type is NOT re-usable and are known for cracking!.

And this one CAN be re-used ...

It could be that they got the gear lash to tight and something paid for it.When it heated up they expanded and boom. They could have shimmed the oil pump to tight.

Over 12mnths since the overhaul so your best bet is to get it to a shop near you with a good reputation. Driving it in this state is not a good idea.

RE: Whinning sound front cover
Im guessing its a chipped crankshaft gear. You didnt say what engine this is. The 2350 had a few that were poor quality and resulted in chips and a whine. Have also seen the oil pump fail and cause a howl.

RE: Whinning sound front cover
It's a 871. Been at the shop since Monday. They finally tore it apart today. (They were supposed to tear it apart tuesday) Tooth broke off the cam gear and damaged every gear on the way down. Now I'm waiting to see if the warranty is going to cover it. According to the warranty paperwork they should but we know how they are.

At this point I should have ordered timing wedges and went after it myself. With all of this downtime I would have been money ahead. Still saying monday or Tuesday morning before it's complete. Remember why I hate dealerships

Fair size job if it got the crank gear too.
