Well ..... This is an interesting one.

It is not very often it happens,... BUT ... in this case it is in fact true.

CPL3838 is comparable with CPL3839, or at least the programs that I inspected. Here is what was found, and I edited the first post on this thread to reflect it.

After checking/comparing more than 17,000 + settings in each of these files, it is only power and torque, or other options mentioned, that are changed in them. All else is 100% the same.

For CPL3938/CPL3939 engines. These files in this group listed have been checked closely and should be fully interchangeable with each other without causing emissions systems or other issues ...
Code:
EF10060 = 500HP/[email protected] RPM(CPL3938). Accelerator noise control = ON, Smart Torque = OFF.

EF10061 = 500HP/[email protected] RPM(CPL3938). Accelerator noise control = ON, Smart Torque = ON.

EF10063 = 500HP/[email protected] RPM(CPL3938). Accelerator noise control = ON, Smart Torque = OFF. The low-end torque is also significantly more aggressive in this file vs. the 100061 file.

EF10064 = 525HP/[email protected] RPM(CPL3939). Same 1850 torque as the EF10067 from 1150 - 1500, then at 1600 rpm+, it falls off slightly due to the lower HP setting. It is also a little softer on the pedal below 1150 rpm. Accelerator noise control is enabled.

EF10067 = 550HP/[email protected] RPM(CPL3939). Accelerator noise control is enabled.

EF10069 = 600HP/[email protected] RPM(CPL3939). This calibration actually has 1950 torque, not the 1850 it is listed at. It also drops off to 572HP at 1600HP and up. Also has accelerator noise control disabled.


EF10072 = 550HP/[email protected] RPM. {Fireturck only!} - Roughly Same as EF10067 but with slightly LESS torque above 1500 rpm. Excess temp shutdowns are disabled. Protections disabled during PTO/pumping. No anti-theft option. No accelerator noise control. Cruise control options disabled. All derates disabled. No warmup protection. No shutdowns for clogged SCR/DPF/DOC. Idle shutdwn blocked. NO starter lockout or overcrank protection.


So ... you could in fact use a CPL3839 program in your CPL3838 engine with no ill effects.

I have CPL3937 with EF10084. Tag on engine says EF10054.41-80000. Is that an issue?
Previous engine was ISX15 425 CPL4583 which goes with EF10084 according to Quickserve

To clarify for others what you said ...
EF10084 is for CPL listing of 4583.
EF10054 is for CPL listing of 3937.

The EF10084 program that you say is is currently in it is rated at 425HP/1650 torque.
The EF10054 program that you say belongs in engine itself is rated at 450HP/1650 torque.

Now, are they compatible? - and if not, what might not be?

If the tag matches the engine ser# (maybe you should also find out and let us know the actual engine ser# is to confirm this), and it says it is supposed to have EF10054 program in it, well here are the differences ...

* The emissions constraints are significantly different. Much more stringent emisions requirements are imposed on the EF10084 program when compared to the EF10054 program. <- this means that the engine is going to be more sensitive to emissions issues, etc. with the EF10084 program in it. This is likely to also have an effect on increased DEF fluid usage rates too. Using the wrong program also might be problematic and cause someone to have more headaches than normal when it comes to those systems.

* as far as power/torque go ... Well actually, even though the EF10054 program is higher HP, the power/torque is exactly the same between the 2 programs in the 1100-1300 rpm range (at 1650 ft-lbs torque).

* The emissions system component programming is also NOT compatible. The 2 programs are set for 2 different types and sizes of SCR canisters and other components.

* The EF10084 program is designed to utilize an actual PM tailpipe sensor, and the EF10054 program, this sensor is un-mapped/unused. This would be an issue if the wrong program is used.

* The EF10084 program also has logic active for a DEF quality sensor at the DEf tank, and the EF10054 program does not. This would be an issue if the wrong program is used.

* The EF10084 program is set to NOT use ammonia quality sensing, where the EF10054 is. Again, this would be an issue if the wrong program is used.

Other than the major differences, the programs are compatible. Things like the proper CAC intake, and exhaust flow, etc. are all the same. It is only emissions system differences that are the problem.

-- THIS MEANS IN YOUR SITUATION (based on what you described) THAT the correct program to use for the truck SHOULD BE the EF10084 and not the EF10054, as the emissions systems for the truck (and not the engine) should match the Ef10084 program in this case. An engine swap would not usually warrant someone swapping all the emissions systems components too. Using the engine's original EF10054 program would have been a mistake, and likely would have not even run properly without many faults.

THE ONLY CONCERN THOUGH -- Would be to ensure that the injector trims were updated in the program to match the injector trims on the engine, as they are not going to be the same as the originals.

Yes that is EXACTLY my situation. Truck seems to be running just fine but I do not know if injector trims were updated. Any way I can find that out?

you need to pull the valve cover and get the injector trim codes off the injectors then verify them in Insite.

basically an algorithm that softens the acceleration and deceleration a bit if memory serves me right.
