Sooo thats what that banging was!
Towed this one in Saturday after the driver said it was making a banging noise :too_sad:

That would certainly make it bang.

Is it just me or does the outer casting on that crank near where it broke look like it may have slight defect to begin with? - It looks like it had some slag in the mold if you ask me.

Even so, It is not likely its downfall on its own.

As much as that sucks, you should probably be thankful it was just banging and didn't go BOOM!
Having to buy a crank sucks, but if it didn't take out the block and head (for core) that's really quite lucky.

I'd magnaflux the block then have it line-bored, if it passed the inspection. If someone rolled bearings in and missed numbered the main caps, close fit but just enough off to flex the crank...
