Anybody convert to 3157 bulbs from 1157?
Im strongly considering this. My RF front turn signal keep going out mid drive because I the socket is, well, crap. What makes it worse is the new sockets I'm finding aren't much better.

I've already played with the contacts to tighten up the connection and dielectric grease. It just buys me time before doing it again.

I've been considering replacing the sockets altogether and upgrading to the newer style bulbs. The 1157 is 50+ year old tech. Im hoping the newer style will not only be more reliable, but I can take it one step further and get some good quality ( not China eBay) LED's. The only issue I've seen with the 3157's is I've seen some sockets get scorched over time with regular bulbs, which the LED's would help with.

My truck is a 2010 T2 so I don't think I'll be facing significant issues with LED.

Your thoughts?

When my side markers went out last time, I opened up the housing and soldered in a pair of mini LED marker light bulbs from the truck stop into them and put them back together. That way I can find replacements anywhere. One for the marker, the other for the turn signal.

Not sure about your model truck, but my prostar don't care.

I just popped some led in mine. My one connector had a weak connection so I bought a new pigtail from the dealership.

I tried to get a new pigtail. I was told that was a no go and I'd have to buy a whole new harness.

Not just no...but hell no. My local KW has been pretty decent to me on the parts side of things but I won't do that over a pigtail.

You can pick up blinker pigtails at a lot of autopart stores. If it is a proprietary plug then truck salvage yards are a good secondary place to get one. My headlight socket burned and the contacts wouldn't stay in contact with the bulb. I bought the new socket from TA. 5 minutes to cut old one out and wire new one in with heat shrink butt splices.

I think ima do the same. The passenger marker under the door is all screwed up and replacement are crazy expensive!

Just make sure you get the positive and negatives on the led correct. They are directional and won't work if soldered in backwards.
