That is the jake harness pass through connector.
When it has excessive oil leaks it is usually a sign of excessive crank case pressure.
However it can be due to age, but that is not as common...

Thanks for the info. Took the cover off and found this. Do you think this is the correct orientation? Looks to me like the fitting is turned to funnel any oil into the connections. Next time I run the engine I'll be looking for pressure. (manometer, insite) ./uploads/201802/post_3119_1518215170_00e8115cb2925135e2093b1b8ce4e98f.jpg

RE: 871 head electrical connector leaking oil
When I did my inframe on mine, I purchased a new engine brake harness and used RTV red silicone to seal that plug. Not sure if it was the best thing to do but it made sense to me at the time to do so to prevent oil from seeping into the pins.

Changed mine a month ago, just age; not hardly any crank case pressure. Think it was 149.00 for new internal harness, was also cracked shorting out.

Crankcase filter was saturated with oil. Drilled it out until I get a new version freeflow filter. Also cleaned and packed the fitting with rtv. Harness is old; cracked plastic ends and brittle woven cover. I can see a new one the next time I open the top.

Just be careful with running on that old brittle harness. Parts of it can break off from vibration, get into the clock-works, and muck things up if you know what I mean.
