What would cause black oil in a tuned engine
I've read numerous times on here that your oil should stay clean (not black) after a proper tune. What would cause you to have black oil after a proper tune?

An improper tune.

depends on how much you idle, the shape of the engine and injectors, and a whole lot of factors.

What exactly makes it black if the soot isn't a factor anymore?

do some oil sampling and stop guessing.

I did, it showed nothing abnormal according to the report.

When I first tuned my truck, it took several oil changes to wash out the soot that had been living in my motor for hundreds of thousands of miles. About the third change it stayed honey brown for well over 12,000 miles.

Same here, when I did mine it took me dropping the oilpan for a night to clean it up.

Do you have a bypass filter on it? My new long block turns oil black around 10,000 miles with a MommaBurt tune and without a bypass filter. I have to sample this one cause i think it turned black a little fast. But this was also the first time I used gear lube in it. And I'm at 45,000 on it so 1st overhead adjustments are about due.
