Can I move my truck with no oil in the trans ?
Had a p.t.o. failure, drained the oil in the trans and took the p.t.o. off. Now I'm waiting on parts. Can I start the truck up and move it about 30' straight backwards? I don't know if there is an oil pump in there that could get damaged??

Dunno what you have for a trans, I have a RTLO18913 that has a pump in it...I believe all the RTO/RTLO transmissions do.

You can probably crank it up to get 30' out of it if you idle it back with no load...I wouldn't go more than that or let it idle, and I would expect it to make a mess.

If at all possible, I would just say no, don't move it or crank it until it's fixed.

NO! YOU CANNOT EVEN RUN IT!

I did this before and hooped a brand new transmission. The tranny spins all the time while the truck runs!

Well I started it and moved it, only ran for about 15 seconds i can't imagine that could have hurt it. I guess we'll see

yes it does, if you do start and move it you will have done damage or taken alot of service life outa the tranny.

What I would do is push the clutch in start truck let it build air then turn it off and release breaks and push it forward with another truck

Oh boy, I'm hoping there's a link to a good story behind this. I'm in the mood for a good laugh at someone else's expense for once after some of the bungled things I've done lately.

Also tree98 you can always go this route.

Or this way depending on availability.
