I would definitely be checking regen history ....sounds soot clogged ....and EGR tune up is probably needed, bake the DPF etc.

Why can't you see the cam? It is the same head I have. Check the cam lobes, if it is carbon'd up the cam shaft is usually chewed up. Sounds like the guy has a high idle motor, face plugged and a real mess internally.
871 and cm2350 are different. I used bore scopes and mirrors and every other thing I could think of .... I can see where its at :-) but only little glimpse's of actual cam lobes.

If its the same model as mine cummins had a recall for bad rings, carbon packing and polishing liners. Mine was partially inframed at about 370k. May be worth a call to the dealer.

Yes, but along the way I have found a lot of the parts are the same as 15 .... just located differently ..... that being said I did not know the cam was "that" differently located or I would not have spoke ......my bad.

For the OP I would think you have some MAJOR issue if your truck is guzzling that much oil!?!

I Run Rotella - Oil Usage 1 Gallon every 650 - 800 miles
...

Soemthing is very wrong there. Like others have just mentioned, even on a fresh inframe it should not be nearly that much.

I think the first 8,000 miles on my own inframe, I used about 2/3 gallon. - After that, it settled and has the typical ~1 gallon in 20k miles+.

Mine did however drop 0.7 mpg for the first ~80,000 miles until everything loosened up again, then came back to normal ... just thought I would mention that if others are curious.
