RE: New ISX motor ?
2008-2011 CM 871 for reliability and longevity and a vast knowledge base how to make it run like a champ on this forum.

So far this year at place im leased on with there is 4 new trucks bought by O/Os all pulling Flatbed.

1 - Bought Dec 2018 - 2019 - 389 - ISX15/18sp manual Performance Series 3.36 Rears - 565HP and gona guess 2050 on TQ - Struggling for 5 MPG vs his 1990s 379 3406 cat he traded in that even at 1.3M virgin Miles was getting 6.5 MPG - Typical Large Car midroof

2 - 2019 - Bought this week and 3 weeks ago - T680 - ISX15/12sp auto Efficiency Series 2.84 Rears - 450/1650 - 1 driver getting about 6.2MPG but complains truck is absolutely gutless in the hills. other driver just bought his this week. Both are the 80 something skyrise sleepers

1 - Bought Oct 2018 - 2019 - Cascadia - DD15/DT12 Auto Unknown gearing probably 2.something - 500HP/ dont know DDs torque ratings - Getting 7.5-8MPG all day long with good power in hills says he drives it like he stole it. Midroof

so looking at that 140-170k for a new truck would only be worth it to buy the 19' Cascadia specs running Flatbed with no Tuning/Modifications from what ive heard this year from people i know.

my Lonestar CM871 3.36 rears 500/1850 is doing about 5MPG running 65-67 mostly and 60-62 when i have plenty of extra time nets me about .5MPG its not perfect and i think i have some issues hiding somewhere because even empty my mileage doesnt go up really. but i have 40k in my purchase with 1/4 of their payments so when i want to i can park it in a corner and disapear on vacation for a week or a month and not be out a whole weeks earnings in payments + vacation cost.

^^ ...This...

- Although I ended up purchasing a cm2350, it seems like the 22/2350's are plagued with the infamous High Press Fuel Pump issue. Even staying on top of them doesn't guarantee the inevitable failure which can take out the engine. I had heard that the X-15 HPFP had a better design than the previous 2 generations, but with that amount of fuel pressure, components are still very likely to cause catastrophic failure.

- Do yourself a favor and research and truly understand the most common problems of whichever engine model you lean towards BEFORE making the purchase. That way you'll be prepared when the $hit hits the fan.

RE: New ISX motor ?
I think I’ve kinds narrowed my looking down to 2014 and newer with the Cummins. I see a lot of good buys with the 2250 and 2350 but the fuel pump scares me. All the 870 and 871 around me are high mile oilfield trucks. Was talking to a o/o crude hauler for the company I’m hiring on with. He advised to buy as much newer truck as possible to keep the down time to a minimum. It’s all a gamble either way lol.

RE: New ISX motor ?
have not seen anything newer beat this prostar w CM871 with its 8.3 mpg/Million mile average to the pump yet. when i do, I will consider buying something newer.

I know of at least a dozen others that have the same (or very similar) setup making the same profitability and good high fuel mileage as I am with mine. What we do is very repeatable.

Biggest trouble I see these days is those tall damn rears. Anything taller than about 3.55's is a waste of fuel and nothing but torture on the engine once you have a loaded trailer.

Hey Rawze, I’m taking your advice and I rule out anything higher than 3.55. I’ve found a few with 3.70 and 3.90 that I’m looking into.
