Unilevers can certainly make it 2050-2100 and clean burning. Have u been able to get in touch with him?

RE: Cm870 gold oil tune
Its a cm870, don't stop at 1800rpm take that thing all the way up to 1850-1875 to shift and don't be worried if you make it to 1900rpm. Mine loves that rpm range. When I need to shift it falls right back in working range with momentum and boost together. You need to combat the slower air actuator on your turbo. Taking it up there picks up the actuators slack. You'll more than likely find you won't use as much throttle pedal taking it up there also.

RE: Cm870 gold oil tune
Interesting. I usually run it 1300-1700. 1800 if I'm on the right hill with the right load. I heard of a trick where you drill and tap a hole in the top of the actuator and put a bolt and nut in there to push down and limit the range of movement for the actuator. Its supposed to make the turbos response much faster. But to me that seems shady. So I never did it.

RE: Cm870 gold oil tune
My next question is if I do bump it up to 2050-2100 torque will I need to be concerned with cracking anything or can the motor take it for a long life?

RE: Cm870 gold oil tune
Generally high torque engines will have a shorter life than say a 450 or 500 hp but a properly tuned engine wont crack heads and self destruct the way u see with the high hp box tunes and deletes. Unilevers is quote good at what he does. Longevity depends largely on how u drive it and maintain it. U take 2050 and keep ur foot on the floor with that 150k lbs then u can plan on a short lived engine.

RE: Cm870 gold oil tune
Will I need to delete my motor to achieve gold oil? Or will this tune include the egr system being operational?

RE: Cm870 gold oil tune
Stop the soot monster. Its killing your engine. Don't think twice about it. Go get yourself the appropriate thick stainless steel blocking plate for the EGR and away you go.
As far as gold oil, you have a cm870 after a demandate and a few oil changes, you'll have much cleaner oil for about 5-6k miles then it'll be black but still cleaner than pre emissions engines. Uni's tune is fantastic.
Gold oil is a bit unachievable for very long with the cm870 because of the slow air actuator. The lag in response makes a small amount of black (more like light grey) smoke when shifting and 1st stepping in to the accelerator.

An oil bypass system will help greatly. But will not get you gold oil from oil change to oil change. More like black but still clean for a big ol Diesel. But then again you don't need ultra clean oil to get way over a million miles out of these engines. They a fantastically built. The parts that slightly sooty oil will effect won't be your enemy. The parts that hammering combustion and just plain wear is. Like your rod and main bearing need to be changed at 900k-1000k miles to and the head will need to be replaced shortly after. Somewhere between 1.1-1.3 million they are just plain whooped. And remember that big 2050 torque tune will speed up the time frame quite a bit on these items.
