Turbo problem 870
Unilevered 870 been sitting for about 4-6 weeks because the coolant tube to the EGR cooler started leaking. So i fixed that and took it for a test drive. Its struggling to make more than 10 pounds of boost and egt's between 700-800. Also jake makes noise but doesn't have any power. I'm thinking vgt controller?? Can it be tested with insite?

RE: Turbo problem 870
Yes and no the only way to test it in insite is to put a air gage on the air line that runs to the turbo and see what air pressure is (if I remember correctly it should be 60ish psi on it) but it might be the vgt ring that as rusted and not moving correctly and the test is under the turbo actuator test

RE: Turbo problem 870
Pull the actuator off the turbo and make sure the VG ring moves freely and has full movement.

You can run the on off test using Insite. Check for any leaks and the actuator to respond. There is also a turbo test using Insite. I believe it cycles through the full commanded range and reports back if there is any problems.

Other than that, make sure you have at least 90 psi going to the control module.

About how far is full range on the VG ring?

RE: Turbo problem 870
Yup 12mm and it will have a dry creak sound in its movement but be smooth enough in the entire range.

I don't know if Insite has that info on it but quickserve does.

RE: Turbo problem 870
VG was froze, put 90 psi to it and worked it back and forth.

RE: Turbo problem 870
All jokes aside, I love the ISX. It is absolutely a engineering masterpiece! Love working on them, Love diagnosing them, and most of all love getting them to run the way they are supposed to run! Now if I could only get a file pulled to figure out how to read the programming..
