RE: Last straw
Both me and mechanic were curious as he hasn't seen this in any other head he's pulled. Why are the valves red?

RE: Last straw
Were you running any additives in your fuel? Not very pretty combustion

RE: Last straw
No additives just a few bio treatments and a bit of antigel in winter

RE: Last straw
looks a little on the clean side, but not bad, not excessive. Perhaps a bit of turbo over-boosting on occasion in its past?. - The reddish-brown tint is from NOx gas (a reddish-brown gas) staining, as you no longer have EGR on the engine and its burning the fuel nice and clean.

Here is the difference between good and bad combustion. yours is a bit clean, but clearly nowhere near as bad as these engines...

Take pics of the tops of the pistons. They tell the real story.

RE: Last straw
i thought i took pictures but guess not.... but the tops of the pistons looked like the good ones in your post as i couldnt for the life of me find the spray pattern in them.

RE: Last straw
So far i can tell the engine is smoother with the new head but power is still not there only 30-32 psi at full chooch and about 95-96k rippems according to insite. on 1 pull i put turbo in manual went to 60% then i hit near 38. im going to pull DPF can apart this weekend and make sure its clean and isnt and never will be a problem.

i also with head rebuilt the IFSM which i replaced with a CM870 IFSM since mine the pressure sensor port stripped. and insite showed 276-285psi depending on load for fuel pressure.

but the Actuators are remands i put on end of last year gona probably take them off this weekend also and pull them apart to make sure nothings in them incase they are the issue.

RE: Last straw
don't forget about the DOC and other components too.

did u test drive it with the exhaust pipe disconnected ?

-- You know, I once found a birds nest all burned up in a guys exhaust right at an elbow pipe. -- he swore he had no restrictions too.

Lastly, with all the stuff fixed now that has been found so far, there is more testing that can be done using CT. - Like extended fuelling state control logic conditions and other things. Also there are some audible tests that can be done to verify the injection timing mechanically vs what the computer says.

Also check the barro and ambient temp sensors and compare them to the local weather reports.

Bring it back by here some time and I can help you continue the chase if necessary. Maybe help u pull the turbo and have its exhaust and VG section inspected over at YTS.

Should try to locate those pics of the pistons too. if not, then we may have to boroscope it to see the spray pattern and style of piston it is to ensure they are correct.

does it pass an intake pressure test now? - did you test it before installing the rocker shafts?
