0285 fault code
Good morning, i got to the truck this morning and half of my dash gauges not working voltmeter,air,fuel and trowing code (285 SAE J1939 Multiplexing PGN Timeout Error - Abnormal Update Rate) it is a 2009 prostar will this be a code for the cab controller or something else?

Id be checking power to cab controller. A 285 code is saying theres no signal to a switch or what ever. Which in the multiplex its set to receive from cab controller. If cab controller is not sending signal id say check fuses.

Found the problem here at the firewall there's this two ground connections i disconnect them clean them and Boom code went away and everything is working now thanks for your help Mr Hagg i really appreciated.

Ive had several peterbilts and kenworth that would start like they was dead but you test batteries and they would be good. End up being a bad connection. Once cleaned all cables it would start right up. Glad you got it going...

i have a brass wire brush ive made it a habit before every winter to find every connection i can take apart that is exposed to the elements and hit them with it and clean off any and all corrosion as winter is what will test your connections the most with the cold being so hard on electrical components and batteries on startups.
