2011 Cummins ISX15 engine derated

I'm 33 I've been a mechanic all of my adult life. I graduated from NADC and I'm the mechanic for a small grading company. I have not had to deal with def or egr systems on diesels so I'm trying to self educate. One question is what do I need to be able to scan a 2011 ISX15, my snap on prolink will not cover this truck. And the engine is derated right now but the driver said he only dropped one gear pulling up the mountain. Would it make it to the KW dealer about an hour and a half away? The truck is saying "exhaust (SCR/DEF) service required." Thank you in advance for any help.

Cummins insite and inline 5 or inline 6 would be a good start.

yes you can get inline5 and insite for about 300 bucks us. Just google it there are several sellers.

The DEF pump on the 2015 Freightliner I'm running failed last week and did the same thing. I was dropping 1 more gear because of derate even when empty.
Only 50k miles on truck. Replaced the pump and now everything is fine.

I know this is jumping to conclusions but the driver shut the truck off and got out he said there was a funny noise coming from the def tank. I'm worried about them taking it to the dealer because the def system is under warranty but the engine isn't. The service department is saying they will just have to see but I don't want them to just start throwing parts at it.

Have the codes read by someone then go from there. This will point you in the right direction trust me.
