99% of the time, programming through the dash plug will work but that 1% it doesn't, can cause you some issues that may be a pain in the azz.

Over the years I have had a few programming failures with Navistar engine and body computers. It is a major PIA. AFIK none were caused by me. Had a batch of muny trucks a few years back where there was file corruption on the factory side. Updates temporarily bricked s few ECM's. NAV does not have a dedicated connector like Cummins does. The "Super Correct" process is to bench program. Given where they put the ECM that is also a major PIA. Next best is to find the 5 amp fuse between the Ign switch and the ECM. Remove the fuse and plug in a fused switch sourced from B+. This lets me program without using the key. The other modules stay asleep. I do look for ELD's. Most I see are easy find as they connect at the 9 pin.
