The best advise I can give you, you may not like to hear...
If you are thinking of buying a used truck, you need access to Insite BEFORE you purchase.
You need Insite to see and obtain an ECM download to look at;
-any active fault codes
-any inactive fault codes
-engine abuse history
-regen history
You MUST remove the rocker cover and inspect the cam and rocker assembly. ISX's are notorious for cam and rocker issues. Poor oil service intervals exasperate these issues, and only a visual inspection can help you avoid a potential catastrophe. I remove my rocker cover routinely to inspect for wear patterns.
Then you go over the unit with your coveralls on, flashlight, pen and notebook in hand and perform the equivelant of an annual inspection taking notes of everything
You should pull oil samples, if the unit appears satisfactory, from the engine, tranny, and both diff (APU as well if equipped) and get them analyzed by a good lab. Overnight them if you have to. Post those results here, along with pictures and notes you have made, IF you want an honest Assesment of the unit.
A while back a guy purchased a used truck from the Atalanta area and brought it by for Rawze to look over. If you would have seen that video, you would be terrified and you would take this small snipe of advise, then go read Rawze's book about how to inspect and make an informed decision...
Good luck, and don't be scared to share what you find. You may not like what some of us will tell you, but it will be a brutally honest Assessment. Not to piss you off, but to help you avoid the pain of avoidable issues.
