CEL after EGR tune up
Is a CEL common after an EGR tune? Everything was put exactly back in place. Does it need to be reset or should I start looking for a wire issue? Don’t know what the code is as I don’t have a laptop yet.

Without insite we're all just guessing. Make sure everything is plugged in properly and no exhaust leaks. Other than that you'll have to wait till you have insite.

you'll need to find out what fault code(s) your getting.

No, it is not normal to get a CEL light simply by removing and replacing things while the engine is switched off.

(just a wild guess in the meantime)...
The most common mistake however is that people do not get the IMAP sensor plugged back in all the way, as it has to be plugged in before its put back into its hole, otherwise the connector has some interference with the manifold a bit.

I’ll try lifting the IMAP sensor and replugging. It has to be a sensor connection. All o-rings are in place. Truck was in off position when I did everything.

Only thing I fear before I do it is that the CEL light will remain on no matter if the problem is fixed.

It will turn off if you fix it. The code will be stored though so you're able to go in later and see what it was.

RE: CEL after EGR tune up
What’s recommended to self diagnose? Computer with Win 7 or 8? I’ve seen postings about an inline 6 cable from China. And where is the insite program found?

I disconnected and reconnected the plugs. Same result.

So, I’m confused because I didn’t do a complete tune up. I didn’t remove any of the pipes. I had the sensors on hand and just wanted to quickly swap them to see if I’d see an initial change in fuel economy before removing everything. The temperature sensor is the incorrect one, so I didn’t get to change it. Only thing done was removed and replaced the differential and IMAP sensor. O-rings are in place. CEL came on before even starting the vehicle.

Later this evening, I’ll put the original sensors back in to see if any difference.

By the way, the IMAP sensor was carboned through. Completely dirty.

RE: CEL after EGR tune up
Get a cheap laptop with windows 7.

Here's a link to an inline 6 adapter and it also comes with the insite 7.6.2 program and keygen.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Inline-6-USB-Da...890.l49286

You didn't mention what engine you have but as long as it's not an X15 the above setup will do you just fine.

RE: CEL after EGR tune up
Is it the CEL (Check Engine Light/Lamp) or the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp)? Most trucks I've seen the CEL will include the word "CHECK" or the entire Check Engine and/or and "!". While the MIL is usually represented by a simple picture of the engine.

The MIL can be triggered by many things, especially sensor readings that don't fall within the expected range. Sometime the MIL will stay illuminated even after the fault is no longer active to help draw attention to an intermittent or developing issue. According to quickserve, in these situations the MIL will stay illuminated for 3 keycycles after going inactive or until the fault is cleared through the computer. Typically that means 3 times starting and running the engine, though sometimes simple key on, wait 30 seconds, key off, wait 30 seconds and repeat will accomplish it.

If this is on the same 2009 kenworth t660 you have listed in your profile, then you should be able to get a generic code off the dash read out. Use the round know next to your right knee to scroll and select "diagnostic".

What does the dash tell you?
