you never mentioned how many miles/hours on it, history of things, nothing. Its anyone's guess towards what might be needed to be done without proper information.

I see the term being used now and not clarified enough - do you mean MOUNTING shims? Then no. The new cast iron pumps do not use mounting shims. If the backlash is not within spec, you are to return the pump.
