RE: Cummins 870 oil pressure
seems alittle high, going off all the research ive done on the cm870s at least for idle pressure makes me wonder if something is restricted. my 870 with a fresh set of rod and mains and new style pump.. cold idle start about 30psi operating temp 23. cruising speed rpm 1500-1800 35-40 psi. just voicing my opinion and giving you some numbers to compare to. best of luck

RE: Cummins 870 oil pressure
Even with my old pump it would still be 40 cold and warm it’s still 30 even tho I accidentally adjusted my idle without knowing it that day to 800 so put it back down to 650-675 area .. obviously you want the most psi you can get so I’d be worried if I just had motor work down and you’re only getting 30 psi seems really low

RE: Cummins 870 oil pressure
800 rpm at idle isn't bad for keeping oil psi up. Mine is set at 775 for 18-20 psi at idle minimum. Just throwing that out there.

RE: Cummins 870 oil pressure
I’ve noticed around 700 keeps a smooth idle , when mine is set 65-675 it has a rough idle

RE: Cummins 870 oil pressure
That's why I set mine to 775 instead of 800. A few dash pieces rattled at 800. 775... nice and smooth with oil pressure never falling below 18 no matter how hot the oil is. Don't be afraid to set the idle this high. It helps keep good oil pressure to the overhead at idle.
