cm570 turbo overspeed fault
Hello all. I have a cm 570, @600, in a 2007 cabover which is giving a turbo overspeed fault [595] and derate every time you put the boot in. I'll go back a bit, probably about 12 months ago it would give random check engine lights but wouldn't derate, the only effect was the engine brake would have a 2 -3 second delay in activating. Can't remember the code now but was related to the combo sensor which is about $850 here, so put it off as it wasn't a big deal. Eventually it got more frequent so I got a sensor of ebay shipped from China for $40 and it solved the problem for about 5 months. About 2 months ago it started again however this time would derate. Once again, can't remember codes but were related to combo sensor again so bit the bullet and got a genuine part. 2 weeks ago my turbo failed. Snapped shaft and sent oil through engine. Started to run away but fortunately was pulling over and was in gear so stalled it straight away. Had to get towed to a shop where they replaced turbo and intercooler, as it was cracked. Since then it's giving fault 595 every time you put the power down. I've driven it from the shop to home, about 1000km, where it sits now until I can sort it out. I've fixed the boost and exhaust leaks they left me with and removed and cleaned the combo sensor as it did have some oil on it but to no effect. Looking for any advice.
P.S engine sounds fine and pulls as hard as ever, until derate, post turbo failure. Also have access to insite.
Thanks
Matt

RE: cm570 turbo overspeed fault
an engine ser#?

also, what is the max boost it is making in a hard pull?.

and Is the programming factory stock?... and does it match the engine ser#?

any other after-garbage parts.. turbo etc?.

and lastly... NEVER EVER BUY GARBAGE CAN PARTS/SENSORS, ETC. FOR A RED ENGINE!!!!! - OEM ONLY IF YOU GIVE A DAMN ABOUT THE ENGINE AT ALL!

Last count boost was about 38psi
Engine was a rebuilt spare from a major company here, fitted by Cummins for the previous owner. Had 0 ks when I got it 3 years ago. Not sure on programming. I'm not well schooled on that side of things so tend to not stick my nose in it, but with some instruction I can check it.
No other garbage parts. Turbo is from Cummins. All other parts I've got genuine with the old combo being the only exception. I agree on parts comment. Funds were tight, works been pretty slow here last 18 months.

38-psi boost is borderline too high for that model engine. Its no wonder your getting occasional turbo over-spooling problems. The waste-gate should be set at 35-36 psi max at 600HP on a CM570.

Also,... if the turbo is OEM, remove the intake boot for the turbo and ook at the cold side impeller. - Does it have a 12-point nut on it, or a 6-point nut?. This will help determine if it is the right turbo for the engine tier. Post a pic of it if not sure.

At last fault count intake manifold pressure was 263.5kpa 38.2psi and manifold temp was 37.3c, which was bobtail too. Has the 6 point nut, same as the failed one.
