What might cause the fuel gauge bounce up and down? It does it more frequently when fuel in the tank is less then half.
What is the fix?

It's been a couple months so I'm sure you fixed the problem by now.

But for future readers you need a new fuel level sender unit in the fuel tank, they are easy to change. The fuel level bouncing is the beginning g of it going bad eventually it will just stop reading all together.
