my dads 870 was sitting outside warming up and i noticed it would run and the vgt must have been wide open but then it closes down your start hearing the turbo whooosh then all the sudden it opens back up and does this over and over again. what might be going on or is it normal?

2007 T600 CM870 13spd.
Did you look to see if the actuator was moving while this was happening?
no just heard the exhaust burbling then all the sudden quieter then you heard the turbo spooling up then suddenly back to burble.
how cold was it out side when he was letting the truck warm up.
30-32 fahrenheit
this is me shooting from the hip, i believe it could be a feature for the motor to warm up better.

I think my cm870 does that as well if im not mistaken but again i can be wrong. I havent paid much attention to it lol.
Guess I'm used to the new engines that just close the vgt and keep it there. Atleast he found out why his truck kept shutting down for a split second then coming back turned out to be corroded wire going to the ECM 4pin connector 1 new fused wire from bat to 4pin and so far no issues

Forgive my ignorance, and there is much of it to forgive. LOL

When the problem is a physical pin in the situation you described. How do you go about "fixing" it? I understand you said a fused wire, but it's that piece of it I don't understand. Did you physically remove the bad pin? How did you fuse it inside that connector? Was that connector on the ECM harness side or part side?

Hope these are stupid questions. Just trying to learn as much as I can.

Thanks.
Sorry he cut the wire about 4inch back from the connector but plans to go into shop and have the connector disassembled and a new pin and wire put on along with new pin put into the fuse box.

It's the smallest connector on 870 and 871 ecms. Its typically a truck manufacturer ran connection.

And the fuse is just a fuse link on the wire.

The pin itself is still good there was just a butt connector on the wire that had rotted away he doesn't even know why it was there it wasn't done while he's owned the truck
