Tree98, some gremlins are running around in my truck and are laughing at me lol. So like I mentioned the in-line 5 works and I was able to figure out why my Jake brake is not working on my n 14. It’s neat that you can see things like the clutch switch position and switches on/off on the dash! I’m pretty excited to have this tool.
So I tried doing a little trouble shooting on the in-line 5… I grabbed a couple wires and hooked the 9 pin j 1939 adapter that came with the in-line 5 and hooked up the serial end to the in-line 5 and put a hot and ground off a battery and the lights came on, on the in-line 5 (power light).
1.So I feel at this point I eliminated that the j1939 adapter cord and the in-line could be bad.
2.I have 12v at the 9 pin j1939 connector on the dash.

The only thing I can figure at this point (it’s dark out now) is the pins are not making a connection between the male and female 9pin j1939. I’ll try more tomorrow. I m hoping that’s all it is. Kinda like having to spread the connectors on a trailer connection.

On the CM870 vehicle ..
Why did you not just connect the adapter to the round duetch connector under the left side of the dash of the vehicle like most every one else uses>?.

also.. in Insite, make sure you have J1939 selected at the bottom as the connection type, instead of J1708.

Digging in more, it sounds like Unilevers, gearhead or Mammaburt are my go to source for the cm 870, are any of them still onboard? If not any other suggestions.
If they are not around anymore. Would repairing these items work and get it back to safe operating conditions. I’ve already bought a motor N14. last summer and don’t need another one for a while.
Thx
Ron
Running rough is who you need to get in contact with.
Yes I’ve dealt with running rough on the 870s and he does an amazing job, he’s a great guy, and he knows his shi#t.

mommaburt and uni are no longer on here for the most part.
forum member 'running rough' has taken their place with regard to CM870 work.
Is it safe to say that with the codes showing on insite but are listing as inactive, I have a bad delete? my guess is yes and someone has blocked off however the ecm sends the data to the MIL light. Per Trees post I pulled the plug on the EGR and it still flashes the check engine light, maybe they just forgot that line item. Im just trying to make sense of it all. I messaged running rough and I'll just wait for him to hopefully message back. Im sure he is super busy! It's starting to look like I got a really nice peterbilt dump truck with a motor that needs work. It runs really good goofed up. I can't imagine how it would run if all was functional.

Thx

Ron
I doubt its demandated but unplug the delta p sensor and see if that throws a code.

Tree I unplugged the Delta P and it throws a 411 code on and the MIL light does come on.
It's not demandated
