I have a 2018 peterbilt 579 with a Cummins x15 with 420,000 miles
Every so often the motor starts up for anywhere to 30 seconds to one minute than dies
Sometime takes up to an hour to start then will run fine all day and for the rest of the week
Then out of the blue in the morning it will do it again
I do oil and fuel filter change and every 15k miles
This morning tried for an hour and a half and the batteries finally gave out
Any ideas ? I am new owner operator and need truck to run obviously
Thank you in advance

What is the fuel pressure showing while cranking?.

We replaced filter and water separator
Not sure what fuel pressure is
Also do a leak-down test and ensure it passes...

I meant to say I don’t know what the fuel pressure is don’t have a gauge
I don’t have onsite but a shop I know is coming to look at the truck tomorrow
Is the electric lift pump working can you hear it with a key cycle?

You NEED to get yourself a laptop and the cummins insite program. You said your a new owner op....... well the quickest way out of business is to rely on shops to keep you on the road. Buy tools, ask questions here, and learn to fix your own truck. Here's a link to insite and an inline 6 adapter that you would need to help you diagnose your truck.
