Hi, could somebody please explain the purpose of this cut-out in the compressor heads? I'm getting air from it while checking for boost leaks. Thanks.

I don't know what it is for, but it is not supposed to be creating a boost leak.
Looks like a WAB61W17CH2,CYLINDER HEAD, WABC0 85MM, ISX 9111539212, to me.
Here is a video on rebuilding it:

they sell them on ebay also.

This compressor in question also cycles frequently but there are no chassis air leaks and the brakes are adjusted right. Could I be dealing with a sticky unloader valve or a bad compressor head gasket?
or a soot clogged air line.
I recall gearhead telling me, that soot can also accumulate in the air tank's as well. The air tank's can become so contaminated with soot , that eventually the truck has no air for the brake's to function .
This may be of help to other's.
No sign of carbon build-up. I forgot to mention this is a CM570.
