just curious on how insite does tunes on ecms? Does it not reject a certain tune if its not right for the engine?

Insite doesn't tune engines . Tuners do . Insite is only a software that allows them to extract calibration , do changes with other software , then download it back .

no, it will not reject putting in the wrong program. It will dump in whatever you tell it to.

Does anybody know for a factory 550hp program what degree wedges is used for injector camshaft and valve camshaft? Does cpl change for a higher horsepower program? And how does it differ from a factory 475hp program?

RE: Cm870 550 hp egr problems - 808allstarr - 04-16-2016

I just had shop swap ecms from a 475hp to mine which is supposedly 550hp and flow tested cac and there was a big difference in water levels and truck even idled smooother. Another possible problem that came up was when head was changed it was timed according to engine data plate but was wondering if with the higher hp program 550hp that wasnt what it needed to be being that maybe higher hp tune needs a change in timing?

Gearhead or Unilevers are the ones to ask those kinds of questions to. They custom tune CM870's all day long.

Posting the engine serial number, the wedges that were used, ECM program you are supposed to have, and the one you actually have currently in the ECM would help. At least someone can look at the files and see what is different.

I have also seen many shops make the mistake of putting the injector cam wedge in the valve cam and vice versa. it can make for similar problems to what you describe. Saw someone do that to a CM871 recently, and it smoked a bit, ran hot, and had low fuel mileage.

i believe its a 4 and a 6 for both the midrange cpl and the bigger one its the small cpl that has the 6/6. Without a ESN im just taking a educated guess that your CPL is 8519 which is the midrange CPL and 8518 is the larger CPL. 8519's run well though when tuned and can produce tremendous horsepower aswell. I tuned one a few weeks back that layed down 670/2050 to the ground and was only 850 degrees post pyro - there was more room to go but that was enough for the owner.

the difference between the 8519 and 8518 is turbo and on some occasions cam.

Yes cpl is 8519. So if the hp was changed up would the timing still be the same as the factory 475hp?

Can tunes really be done remotely? And roughly what kind of time and cost is involved if so?
