Thanks for this post. This happened to me August 19th. Freightliner says I'm ready to roll. Rebuilt fuel pump, new rods and mains, new oil cooler, new oil bypass, and oil thermostat. This has been the worst break down yet. Pray it's fixed. I wouldn't have found this problem without this post. Thanks again Rawze.

Just make sure they flushed that engine really really well. Run it for a week and cut the oil filter open and look for metal shavings.

All these horror stories of fuel pumps, is this something I need to be concerned with on 09 isx 1r 485 cm871?

I don't believe so. It's the 2250 and 2350's

Correct. The fuel pump issues are on the 2250's and 2350's. Terrible, terrible design. A fuel pump failure should not destroy an engine.

On the 871's you just have to worry about the fuel solenoids or actuators (I forget what they are called). However, if one fails, it doesn't take out the whole engine.

Ok thanks. How would you recommend me cutting it open?

Just cut around the top plate and slide the whole metal shell off the filter media. You can use a band saw, saws all, or a angle grinder with a metal cut off wheel on it.
