I believe he said it was overhauled with that 4.5 wedge. Again, I maybe wrong on remembering. It sounds to me like someone was Frankensteining something or wanted to get creative from the start. I know Lonestar10 was was trying to tune this animal in with cterm. Maybe he can connect the pieces of what he did and what happened and tell a full story once things are figured out. It's one of those curious cases that I'd like to see the outcome of what was found and theories why.

RE: Last straw - Lonestar10 - 09-19-2019

Overhaul was done by the previous owners

Also doesnt help your pulling power to turn your fan on, when I'm climbing a hill and my fan kicks in, it feels like a parachute was thrown out back like a race car.

RE: Last straw - Lonestar10 - 09-19-2019

I notice my fan in lower gears but when it kicks in at speed it's barely noticeable sometimes I actually gain speed when comes on in hills

I know your pain Lonestar. I've just sold my T909 with a CM871. It was a money pit for a lot of reasons. The block was at EOL along with a host of other issues that were seeing me tip $20K a year into the engine and emission related components. That truck had the injector cam wedged at 4.75 degrees after we did the static timing. I also have a CM 570 in a T650 that we replaced the head on at the start of the year, it is also wedged at 4.75 degrees. The old 2007 T650 will stay as I can repower it legally over here with a C15/16 when the time comes. The decision to sell the CM871 powered truck stems from a repower 4 years ago with a Cummins Recon engine, needless to say I have learnt a hard and expensive lesson along the way. The point has come in that trucks life where the costs to repower or repair the engine are no longer viable. I will say that when it was going well I liked the way it pulled and the exhaust brake. It was set at 600/2050 which doesn't help there longevity but we are pulling triples all the time and the load factor is always up there.
So I've replaced the CM871 truck with another T909 powered with the X15 that is set at 550/1850 and won't be rated any higher. It will run a 22 series 18 speed with 4.89 diff ratio that will see the engine spinning at 1650 rpm @ 90 klm/hr. I still have a 8 -9 week wait for this tuck as Paccar are building it in Melbourne. It's been 2 1/2 weeks since I placed the order.
