oil leaks isx 2250 - jsfranklin - 05-09-2021

2012 isx 2250 motor 333,000 miles started leaking oil looked to be around oil pan and maybe front crankshaft. I changed the crankcase filter with a baldwin cv15000 at 326000 and the leaks stopped. but now they are starting again! what can cause this?

How clogged was the filter when removed? How much blow-by are you seeing?

**BTW, most use the Cummins maintenance free crank case filters on these engines

On my 2250 I've had lots of oil seep out from the bottom of my crankcase filter housing. Both before and after the inframe. It's on my to-do list to check for blockages in the return line at the bottom of the crankcase filter housing. It's not a measurable amount, but it's the only place my engine "leaks" oil and it makes such a mess at the front corner of the engine. Very annoying.

Could have popped the seals from excessive pressure do to not changing the crankcase filter soon enough. Once stuff starts to leak you have to replace it.

Check for any obstructions in the CC breather box, get rid of the filter element and go with the new forever filter insert. Make sure the long hose coming out of the side of the CCB box is clear of any obstructions too... No spider nests and what not.

Myself, when I had a leak like that, I thought it was coming from the oil pan area too... So, I cleaned the oil off of the motor, then went up to NAPA and bought a dozen bottles of that UV die for the Motor Oil, poured it all in the motor, and ran it around for about 1/2 hour 45 minutes... Used the el cheapo UV plastic glasses and penlight UV light to find that leak. It was coming out of the front top cover gasket right there by the CC breather. I removed the cover, bought a new $47 gasket and used RTV to seal it back up. No leak in that area anymore... So, before you go guessing, get some of that UV dye, save yourself a headache and know exactly where the leak is coming from. Get some dye...

Thank you for your reply, change that filter check for blockages and see what happens
