2008 ISX major turbo squealing - 389guy - 08-13-2016

2008 ISX 685k miles. No mandate for the last 15k miles. I've never seen over 40lbs of boost since removal. But recently it surges up to 50 if I'm heavy into it. ( I immediately back off when that happens) And since then when I get over 32-36lbs it will start to squeal. Like a horrendous metal on metal/nails on a chalkboard screech. But it's intermittent. It only happens about 60% of the time I get over that boost range. And it only surges up to 50lbs when it screeches.
If it doesn't start to screech between 32-36lbs then it will hold 40lbs with my foot to the floor like normal. When it is surging up to 50lbs I've watched Insite and the actuator is sometimes commanded up to 74%. It's also worth noting I have checked the compressor wheel in the turbo for play and free spin and all seems well there however, there is what seems to be a little bit of oil in the pipe right off the charged side of the turbo going towards the charge air cooler (it's black like oil but it's not slick, it's kind of sticky). I am beyond baffled at this and I've already pulled most of my hair out by now.

In my opinion, If programmed properly the max it can close is 58%. If it's commanding more then your turbo table needs to be looked at. The black in the CAC side can only be oil I think.

I believe the max is 65% not too sure. But it only goes higher during the surging.

Don't pull your hair,
Pull your actuator and test it .
Then test the VGT shaft for free and full travel.
Then take the cartridge off the housing and inspect the nozzle, cage and turbine.
If all of the above is good put it back together and verify your calibration (sounds like isn't done by our respected members) .

I will do that. And it was done by a respected member, but please don't get confused, I am not blaming the program. I believe I may have already had actuator problems and a tune just uncovered it.

This is a video of the sound the turbo is making. Hopefully it comes through good enough to make it out.

That sound is either leaking charge air boots or leak in you egr system. We use a block puck in front of the egr cooler so that is for some reason that line is bad we got it covered. You should check the turbo vnt control its easy if you have insite to calibrate it back.

If you make it in to Georgia come see us and we can check it out for you.

Inspect the hose connection air compressor to intake manifold.
