Upgrading my Prostars headlights - Brock - 09-07-2016

Finally got some days off and decided it's time to do my headlight hid retrofit. Winters just around the corner so I wanted better lighting but am not a fan of the plug and play hid kits and the trucklite led lights for the prostar are no good as they don't heat up enough to melt snow and ice buildup. Plus hid blows led clear out of the water.

I went with the following

Morimoto FX-R 3.0 bi xenon projector
Morimoto 55 50w ballasts
Osram night breaker 4300k hid d2s bulbs

The new projector is a low and high beam, making the current reflector high beam useless but I went ahead and put in some Morimoto led 9005 bulbs for the heck of it. I also purchased some new fog light that I will use as driving lights. They are a very wide narrow pattern that will just light up the front area and ditche's without blinding oncoming traffic. I like to see real good but I will not do it at the expense of blinding others.

So here we go. Got my prying tools ready and the headlight goes into the oven. 300 degree's for 5 minutes.

Nice!
At least you're not an inconsiderate douche like so many out there!

I just polished out the headlights last weekend. They are in need of serious up grade.
Do the HID pull more amps than the stock bulbs?

No, they actually pull less which is why some vehicles that are equipped with can bus systems (bulb out warning) require canbus ballasts or a resistor added in line. They system will think your bulbs burnt out.

Most don't have canbus. Volvo does and I'm sure new trucks are starting too.

I can tell you right now you will need a set of incandescent fog lights for the winter. I run LED headlights on my 9400 and ran into some serious trouble when I hit a snow storm on a two lane road. If these things dont generate heat the snow will not melt off them. Its a real eye opener. I will have to put incandescent fog lights on this year. I can also tell you these lights make a big difference at night. I love my LEDs'

Did you just replace the bulbs or did you do the projectors?

I like the wide angle floods and the daylight balance white light. How are they when the snow's flying?

I'm see like an owl at night, my wife's night vision is terrible and she has allot of trouble with glare, even with expensive driving glasses. Nothing more important than seeing where you are going.

Also looking to add ditch lights to the tractor ,trailer for night time and backing into buildings.

My headlights are hid. hid generate enough heat to melt snow, plus they shoot farther down the road and wider into the ditches. In winter time these led fogs will be useless while it's snowing.

I replaced the whole headlight.
