Jake brake & oil temp cm870
I’m kinda lost at what to do. So 07 cm870 fresh inframe done. Demandated and non vgt turbo. I’ll start with I know you lose 3rd stage that’s not my issue or question. Oil temps have always ran higher than I have wanted cruising loaded when it’s 55 plus outside oil temps run 230 or so if I’m in the throttle pulling it’ll climb to 240. New oil cooler and 215 degree oil thermostat put it in when it was overhauled. It did this same thing before it got overhauled. The jakes when the oil temp is over 215 are real choppy and weak if oil temp under 215 they work great just how they should. Is it possible something in ecm is causing the Jake’s to do that or something else? I’m thinking maybe it’s possible the temp sensor is bad and not reading right? Idk

RE: Jake brake & oil temp cm870
Your oil temps are high because you have a bad demandate program in your ECM that's causing excessive friction and wearing your engine out prematurely.

The way to fix it is to put the correct turbo back on it and have the programming fixed.

Everything you describe about your engine and its situation screams to everyone here that it has been butchered and abused by bad decisions and bad delete programming. It has those problems because some complete moron(s) hacked a $40,000 commercial engine up like it was some kind of back-woods red-neck chicken barn.

- One of the big signs of excessive wear and excessive engine abuse is higher than normal oil temps. Another one of the BIG RED FLAGS is removing that VGT turbo .. bacause ALL PROPER CONTROL OF FUEL-AIR-MIX has now been lost. - The RED ENGINES USE THE VGT TURBO to set the proper fuel-air-mix... NOT THE FUELING!... and you have destroyed the ecm's ability do do this properly, ... sending the engine into an agonizing death spiral.

so.. the answer is exactly what 'tree98' said above here... YOU HAVE SH%IT, ENGINE KILLING PROGRAMMING, AND HAVE BUTCHERED IT INTO OBLIVION!....

(metaphor)...
- What you have done is like someone driving thru a bad neighborhood,.. and then turned down the wrong street with that engine... and instead of the locals selling you crack-cocaine... THEY SOLD YOU RAT POISON AND FALSE PROMISES, and STOLE YOUR MONEYS ... all while your engine suffers and dies.

There are correct ways to do things.

What you have done to that engine so far is the opposite of that entirely.

---THE SOLUTION---

-- PUT THE ORIGINAL VGT TURBO BACK ONTO IT, AND ANYTHING ELSE THAT BELONGS TO IT, according to its serial #.

-- PUT THE CORRECT OIL THERMOSTAT BACK IN IT!!!.. AND NOT SOME LOW-TEMP BANDAIDE TRASH THAT IS GOING TO PERPETUATE OXIDATION ISSUES IN ITS FUTURE!!!.

-- GET THE PROGRAMMING OUT OF THAT ECM!!!... and get with forum member 'running rough', specifically, as he is about the only one who specializes in those much-older CM870's and their proper programming.
