Fuel/water separator filter turning black
I have a new to me 2019 565 X15, 177k. My fuel/water separator keeps turning black. Thought it was algae, but the tanks are sparkling clean. I just had Thermoking install a new tri pac, thought maybe they got trash when installing the pick up tube. Changed it at 5k miles, then it turned black again. Changed it at 5k miles again. Now I’ve driven 1k miles on this filter and it’s turning black again. Any suggestions?

Welp, can’t edit the title after my iPhone auto corrected the word separator. But you all know what it’s supposed to say lol...never mind fixed it.

Take fuel sample and send it to a lab, find out exactly what it is.

I've got the same issue with my 2250 but it has the cartridge type filter. There are threads on here about Asphaltene, I assumed that this is what is going on with mine. I normally just change my filter mid oil change. Here's a picture of my filter at about 7,500 miles.

RE: Fuel/water separator filter turning black
I have paccar water separator on my truck. Both fleet guard and paccar branded filter turns black. Have a fuel restriction gauge and it doesn't make it to 5 before I change the filter at 15000 miles.

I figure it's normal for the filter to turn dark work use.

Mine does the same thing. I use the 7 micron, and replace about every 6k to 7k miles.

What do these filter restriction gauges look like and where are they located? I kind of like the idea of having a quick check indicator on the fuel lines.
