In my truck (2016) the central gateway module is next to the ABS module in the center behind coffee cupholder.
The gateway is like an internet router that manages the CAN Bus.
It is fairly easy and cheap to replace with a used part. (You can call Freightliner or your truck dealer, give them your VIN to see if your truck has this part )
