RE: Isx 871 in place of 2250
Overhauled with cheap crappy chinese parts? Do those engines have mandate on them and are they factory programming? First thing you have to to is pull the programming from ecm and have it looked over.

Maybe damaged 2250 can be salvaged (if no spun mains) with new original crank AND oil pump + bearings + rods and proper take apart with block oil galleys washing? Also counterbores ( liner seats ) recut and liners raised to 0.014" to prevent head gasket issues. Need to calculate cost of all new original overhaul parts (including new original cylinder head, depending on mileage high pressure fuel pump(s), inhjectors) and maybe it makes sense to rebuild it financially looking.

871 has been properly overhauled in the past or it is going to require similar amounts of money in it to make it run reliably?

Hours of converting harnesses etc are going to add up and that makes no sense unless you have the time and really want to do it. But in the future, if 871 engine wears out, it is harder and harder to find good rebuildable 871 core, since they are getting old and the supply is drying out.
