mid128 pid 411 fmi5

2005 cm870 getting active mid128 pid411 fmi5. I got a new sensor but didn't mount it just plugged it in and turned the ignition on. Still has the code after trying to delete it. Shouldn't the sensor work without the motor running? I have a otr box that I can plug in that demandates the truck and I can delete the code if I hook it up.
