YUP! --- I HAVE SEEN ECM'S THAT HAD VIRUSES IN THEM!- AND THEN SPREAD TO OTHER TRUCKS THROUGH CONNECTING ENGINE SOFTWARE FROM ONE TRUCK TO ANOTHER!

No kidding..I didn't consider it a possibility but at the same time I'm not suprised. Going to buy an old HP from my sister in law, wipe (format, not that factory restore bs) and clean install win7 and disable the WiFi chip.

If you have an cm871, 7.5 is all you need to run.
If you have a 2250-2350, yeah you should to be running Insite 7.6
Win 10 spies on loaded software anyway.

If you haven't had the pleasure of running Linux, try it. Ubuntu or Lubuntu. FREE!
You can run duel boot on the same hard disc and load win 7 in a virtual machine.
Never had any problem running Insite.
Windows actually runs better in a VM on Linux. Very light on hardware resources.

My point is, don't let the hardware dictate, there are options.

I've also pondered this. Since this laptop will only use insite and will be getting a fresh os install I might take the opportunity to try Linux and familiarize myself with a different OS.

That old laptop with a new SSD will run like lightning, even faster with Linux.
My laptop boots in about 10 seconds.

I already have a laptop running 10 and I'd rather use it than buy another one just for running win 7. I've got a eBay insite/inline 5 waiting at home.

See lots of people negative on this issue but I been running my on Windows 10 for a while now with no issues using plug under dash. Now I do keep my noise signal low by disconnecting inverter from battery. Turning off all unnecessary items like radio and cruise control. Have no problems uploading or downloading cal files.
Be mindful, unlike others on this board, I am not a power user just occasionally.

honestly for what you are doing it will work fine. i dont agree with windows or like it but for what you are going to use it for it will get the job done.

ive installed insite on probably over 200 machines with windows 10, thats all some people have and you gotta make due with what you got.

RE: Insite 7.6.2 on Windows 10
Is there much of a difference between 7.6 and 8.6?

I recently ordered a cheap inline tool, I've got an old windows 7 notebook running. I'm not sure which one I should look for...

Older version of insite does not do so well with fault codes vs the fault code text on the newer X15 and other engines that are newer than 2019.
